OIL-PALM CONTRACT GROWER
African oil palm otherwise known as Elaesis guineenis is the principal source of palm oil and is native to west and southwest of Africa. For each Hectare (21/2 acres) of oil palm, the manual production averages 10tonnes of fruit yielding 3,000kg (3tonnes) of palm oil and 750kg of palm kernel yielding 250kg of High quality palm kernel oil as well as 500kg palm kernel concentrates (PKC)          Palm Fronds and PKC  are also processed for livestock feed in Piggery. BIOFUEL is being derived from palm Oil as an alternative source of energy in some advanced countries.
Therefore, summarily Derivatives from oil palm include Palm Oil (of which price climbs up yearly), palm kernel, palm kernel Oil, palm kernel cake etc.
Although Oil Palm is originated from the Tropical rain forest of West Africa, however today it is being grown in India. Oil palm Indian Ltd; Australia – Oil Palm Plantations of Australia and Malaysia Government which is the major Palm Oil producer in the whole world.
All things being equal, that is if the plantation is well managed, the yield of palm fruits increases relatively as the year advances. For example 19th – 24th month yield/ha =7.5 tons
25th – 36th month yield/ha =10.6tons
61st - 72nd month yield/ha = 35.5 tons.

There are some basic facts that need knowing. Do you know that:
1.      Oil Palm seedlings stay in the nursery for between 8-9months before transplanting into the field (plantation).
2.      Oil Palm seedlings transplanted begins to fruit between 2-3years.
3.      The dwarf (short) oil palm can be well managed and harvested?
4.      There are herbicides (weed killers) that can take care of your plantation?
5.      Internationally, 5.28tons of Palm Oil is sold at USD $900/ton which translates into USD4750/ha every year.
Palm Oil is being used all over the world because of its economic value and that is why there is need for private farmers participation (PFP).
The major question that is readily come to mind is
HOW DO I GET THE MATURED OIL PALM SEEDLINGS?
It is the seedlings transplanted into the plantation that will grow into matured Oil Palm trees. Here; from our own level we now interfere WHO IS A CONTRACT GROWER?
A contract Grower is a farmer saddled with a responsibility of growing a particular crop within a period of time. A contract is signed between the contractor (Grower) and the farmer, 50%-75% of the amount is released for the grower to execute the Project and the balance is paid at the point of lifting the crops, the grower cannot sell out of the crops and must make sure that they are well nourished.
